As you reflect back over your week, what during your week seemed so important that it took time and resources, that now when you look back does not pass the "SO WHAT" test?
honestly, i don't know if i have a so what this week. taking care of the house, doing laundry for rich, taking care of rykon, and working at my two jobs, all have meaning and value to me. maybe blogging. i may have used too much time messing around onthe internet, but no resources were used except energy:o) i guess that would qualify my week as a pretty good one huh?
The "so what" test is a great test, so long as it doesn't become too introspective; you cant change what is done. It should be a good source of motivation and somewhat of a guide for next week. "Introspection", it's inherant negative qualities, and even as a source of vanity, would be a good subject of discussion for this blog. iMap
I was told to check out your website. I heard you were a "godly" young man and yet see an alluring photo of yourself as well as a bit of haughtiness speaking of all that you do in your profile. You do mention a family. Instead of blogging, is there anytime left for family? Or is blogging satan's new tool to destroy the family time? Food for thought there young man. Walk the walk. You spend a lot of time with photos preparing this blog. How much time do you spend with the family? This my son is the "So What?"
Interesting comment Mr. Anonymous. For someone that admitedly doesn't know "Hookem", you appear to be very critical. What's the motivation? "Alluring photo"? I see a picture of a guy in a cowboy hat holding a big fish...what do you see? Yeah he's got muscular arms. Are you honestly criticizing that photo as somehow being ungodly? "Haughtiness" in his profile? Maybe it could be a final line in a rap song or something...but again I don't understand your complaint.
Since I know this "young man", let me just say in no uncertain terms...he is a godly young man...and by that I mean he intentionally lives his life to seek God's will in his life and impact the lives of others so that they may know Christ. He is a family man, and by that I mean he loves his family and prioritizes time in his day for them. He is an amazing friend, and by that I mean he encourages me on a daily basis to stay in the Word, pray, and seek God's will for my life. This man...and by that I mean a Rock..."walks the walk" more than any I have met in my life at his young age...and by that I mean I am unfortunately a number of years his senior.
My point? Feel free to look around the blog and make comments you feel necessary. However, until you know someone, I suggest you at least take the approach of showing a little respect. It may not be a big thing to him...but he is my friend and my brother from another mother...and so I've got his back. Learn about the man you are criticizing before you address him as "my son."
We may never agree on our opinion of this young man, but I guess I just don't think your approach is warranted. Is there really something in this website or his profile that you believe makes him "ungodly"? Is your belief scriptural...or is it just your individual opinion? Just wondering.
I am a little offended by your cavalier use of the term "my son". That implies a fatherly position of authority and influence. Fatherly authority is given only to his father of birth, and fatherly influence is earned by consistent love, admonition, example, and discipline; none of which you have earned in this young mans life. I happen to have intimate knowledge of Hookems; family life and I don't know mwny men at any age that are as committed to his wife, children, and extended family. I sense that you may be in a postitional place of spritiual influence. If you are as quick to make judgements of those that are under your influence as you have demonstrated in judging this young man, you need to examine any spiritual call that you may feel you have. If you feel the need to discuss this further, feel free to write me at pastorhines@babchurch.org iMap
Now for my real reaction to anonymous. Who the heck do you think you are? If you think the photo is alluring...are you attracted to men? Haughtiness came to your mind because that would be the only thing from which your comments could come or is it that you cannot comprehend a "young man" being this Godly because you never had your day of Godly influence? And fianlly, get out of the dark ages...if you want to have influence get a blog, post your muscles, share your thoughts and maybe some poor soul will have nothing to do and decide to blast you without ever knowing you...take the family for some ice cream and get a life.....the mother of another.
anonymous, Truly you are out to hurt the person who sent you to this blog. Or you are jealous. You do not know the man who owns this blog. Pablo designed it and Hook em spent no time with all those graphics. Someone has commented to me that we could assume you approach everything in your life with a critical eye and you probably have few you love and who would say they love you. Someone has also commented that we could assume that you use the word "haughtiness" because in your KJVO world that's the Pharisaical thing to do. But I'm not going to assume all those things; I love the Family of God. The Left, Right and everything in-between. I also know that I will reap what I sow. Righteous acts done in legalism = no value.
SHIZZZAM we have LIFT off. First let me say that I am truly overwhelmed and honestly humbled by all the comments. Thanks you all.
Anonymous, first, thank you for visiting the blog. It has been my stated goal that God use this blog as a source of challenge and encouragement. That certainly is not limited to my readers but myself as well. And with that I will take your thoughts under advisement in prayer.
In response to your comments, I will assume that you are fellow brother in Christ and therefore will uphold you with honor and respect as we are called to in 1Peter 2:17 “Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king
I know doubt have committed to putting myself out there as a target of criticism as I post my thoughts from day to day. To that I am willing and able to take what comes. To be honest I expect it and welcome it.
Alluring defined: extremely attractive, tempting, or glamorous, and able to arouse strong desire in people. Man, thank you. I will let you decide if your use of the adjective was appropriate as relates to my photo. I would hope that this blog is "extremely attractive and able to arouse a strong desire in people" through the leading of the Holy Spirit.
I have the great fortune of working from home and am blessed to get to see my wife and children each and every morning when they get up. As part of my ministry; I schedule time during my day to work on this blog as well as our churches men's ministry during times that do not take away from my family time. To be honest, my wife and kids probably get sick of seeing of my face. I need not defend my priorities as they relate to my family. If you are interested please see my posts titled “No greater joy” and “more than a help mate”. I believe they adequately communicate my heart.
To summarize, I truly appreciate your concern for my family and the time I spend with them. However your questioning my Godliness here attempts to under mind the ministry of this blog which is frankly un acceptable and verges on “sowing discord” which our Lord says He hates.
Hookem, i think you handeled your anonymous poster w/great cooth and wisdom. Maybe God has used this posting situation to encourage you that people love and respect you and that you are doing exactly what God has called you too. Look at the support you have been shown. you are loved and respected by many and that is a rare gift. Bless you and your ministry. I know Rich and I are blessed every day through it.
I'm sorry you got criticized. You are right though - when we put our thoughts and words out there - we are vulnerable to attack. It's happened to me in my ministry as well, and it's never fun. For every person who is touched and impacted by what we have to say - there will be another someone who disagrees with it and criticizes our thoughts, approach, and tactics. But you handled it all with a professional yet Godly attitude.
I'm envisioning God smiling down on you - on "His son with whom He is well pleased."
I honestly have to say that this is one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time. I had tears while reading this whole thread. It is really cool how much each of you respect "my son" and that you would go to bat for him with anyone that tried to attack his character. However, I think the thing to remember is that the internet is all about anonymity and therefore people can and will say whatever they want.
In fact, sometimes people will even say things just to try to get a rise out of everyone. This may be the case here. Either way, it's tough to keep an air of seriousness over the internet because like it or not, everyone is anonymous and therefore lacks accountability. I'm sure this won't be the last time something like this happens. In fact, i've done it dozens of times myself.
If this was serious, bro.. er.. my son, you should be honored that the Pope himself visited your blog. It must have been the pope because no one else says things like "my son" anymore.
So to you Pope Anonymous II, thank you for a good laugh. Come back soon and often and feel free to visit my blog. Just click my name and follow the link. God Bless Germany and David Hasselhoff.
Come on brother, you mean to tell me you aren't down with a little six string?
Alright so let me go ahead and punch myself out (that would strike out for those that are less than familiar of baseball terms) I love watching the audition portion of American idol. That has to be a backwards K (again that would be a strike out looking). Suppose that would be game over.
If you come back with "The Cowboys are not God's team) I will hunt you down anonymous. Please be advised, I have access to everyone’s IP address that posts on my blog. Wooops, not so anonymous any more.
Maybe I should add inspector gadget to my profile?
I am on a quest to call men out of mediocrity and into the blood and sweet laden arena of spiritual battle on behalf of their family, church, and nation.

Anonymous....I think you should be spending time with your family instead of reading blogs
TO: Anonymous
1st: You obviously have NO idea WHO "Hook'em" is. He is one of the most GODLY men I have the pleasure of knowing.
2nd: MAN UP and sign your name to your post!

Auf Wiedersehen
Yeah but godly men don't listen to country music either. Strike two Jake, you're on thin ice.

"If you're going through hell" by Rodney Adkins is country AND christian. I don't care what the Pope says!
I guess we better tell pastor that we shouldn't sing "The Devil went down to Georgia" as a praise song anymore.
